About Us

Who:

An initial team of 10 families from New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington, PA united under the leadership of Pastor David Robinson to launch this new ministry in Mercer in the spring of 2008. Since opening day we have had an average Sunday morning attendance 100 people, some who came with us from New Life and many new families from the Mercer region.

Pastor David is a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University and served as the Associate Pastor of Small Group Ministries at New Life from 2002 to 2009 before becoming the full time pastor at the Chapel at Mercer.

What:

The Chapel at Mercer began as an official ministry of New Life Baptist Church, providing the intimacy of a small local congregation while tapping into the resources of a large regional church. We are a “Purpose Driven” ministry that is Bible Based, Christ Centered, and Family Oriented. We provide contemporary worship, life changing Bible teaching, and dynamic ministry to children. On Sunday mornings at 11:00 am we offer Contemporary Worship for Adults and Teens and a dynamic Christ Centered kids program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary age children. We also offer other groups and ministries that meet at various times throughout the week including our Growth Groups, which are fashioned in a more intimate small group setting, and are held in the Chapel Community Room during the middle of the week for adults and teens.

When:

The Chapel opened on Sunday, April 6, 2008 as a church plant sponsored by New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington, PA. The Chapel at Mercer celebrated her 1st anniversary on Sunday, April 5, 2009 by signing a Church Charter and became an independent ministry. Fifty-seven new members signed the Charter and then ratified the Chapel’s new Statement of Faith and By-Laws. The church will become fully independent in January 2010.

Where:

The Chapel is located on the corner of South Pitt and East Beaver Street in historic Mercer, just a few blocks south of the courthouse. It is a beautiful old building with historical significance, being part of the Underground Railroad. Renovations on both the interior and exterior of the building have been completed over the course of our residency. Our goal continues to be restoring its beauty while improving its functionality for ministry. Unfortunately, there is very limited parking on the church property, so when visiting feel free to park in any open space along the street and be sure to bring your walking shoes.

Why;

Christ has called us to “Go into all the world and share the good news with everyone, everywhere” (Mark 16:15). Since 1992, God has continually blessed New Life Baptist Church and enabled them to share the love of Christ and establish a healthy church in New Wilmington, PA. As New Life grew they had sensed God’s calling to step out in faith to establish a new campus in Mercer County. It was in 2008 when New Life Baptist followed that calling and planted the Chapel at Mercer.
